Sunshine Fine


I'm sure we can all agree that so far, 2020 feels like a Netflix docuseries trending harder than “Tiger King,” and of course I’m still watching!!! However, with no end in sight for the world to be “normal” again, our mental health is taking a TikTok savage beating. It’s time to take a pause from the media-filled screens and get SOME MUCH NEEDED D... Vitamin D, that is, from outdoor sunshine! Spending time outside can do wonders for your health and make you feel happier too! Check out my tips on how to get your daily dose of Vitamin D in and how it can positively impact your overall quality of life!

The Sunshine Vitamin

Soaking up the sun for at least 15 minutes not only gives you a beautiful glowing tan, but it’s been known to improve energy, memory and self-esteem. It can also contribute to lower stress, blood pressure and heart rate.

When we’re outside, our body produces its own Vitamin D from cholesterol. “The sun’s ultraviolet B (UVB) rays hit cholesterol in the skin cells, providing the energy for the vitamin D synthesis to occur.” (source: healthline.com)

Girls Just Want to Have Sun

Getting your daily dose of vitamin D is important for normal growth and development of bones and teeth, as well as boosting your immune system against certain diseases.

Laws of Nature

Reducing your screen time in exchange for sunshine, greenery and oxygen can help your body relax and tune out distractions such as people talking, your cell phone, and the television, as you focus on nature around you. Simply spotting a bird fly by or leaves blowing in the wind can be very calming and soothing for your mental health.

Breathing in oxygen also helps to build the immune system, as it aids in killing off bacteria and viruses in the body, and prevents free radicals from oxidizing. The highest quality of oxygen is present early in the morning before the streets become crowed with high volumes of traffic.

Green Serene

Give yourself some sunshine therapy by walking through a park or even your backyard for at least 10 minutes a day. The green grass and landscape colors can ease our minds and refresh our thoughts to be more productive later.

If you enjoy working out, take it outside and you will be sure to feel more energized after your sweaty session.

If you plan on hanging outside, make sure you are still practicing social distancing, avoid touching your face, and continue washing your hands frequently.
